The university offers many scholarship opportunities based on talent, leadership, community service and specific areas of interest, such as athletics. <br \/><br \/><\/em><\/li><li><em>Incoming first-year students who meet the USF admission criteria can obtain academic awards and scholarships ranging from <b>$5,000-$25,000 per year<\/b>. Scholarships are renewable based on academic performance (see <a href=\"https:\/\/stfrancis.edu\/admissions-aid\/financial-aid-services\/satisfactory-progress-policy\/\">Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy<\/a>). Be sure to complete it early to be considered for all available aid programs.\u00a0<\/li><li><strong>Respond promptly to requests for information.<\/strong> If additional documents, such as federal tax returns and W2s, are needed, we will notify you in writing. The FAFSA will be available online at <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/h\/apply-for-aid\/fafsa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">studentaid.gov <\/a>starting October 1 each year. All students, freshman, transfer, and graduate students are encouraged to apply for financial aid.<\/p><p><strong>USF\u2019s FAFSA School Code is: 001664<\/strong><\/p><p>Once the FAFSA is completed, students will be directed to check their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/myusf.stfrancis.edu\/portal\/secure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MyUSFPortal<\/a>\u00a0for updates and document requests from Financial Aid Services. The most common documents and forms requested from financial aid are:<br \/>1. USF Student Data Profile \u2013 this is an electronic form completed via the <strong>MyUSFPortal<\/strong><br \/>2. Federal verification documents<br \/>3. Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Note applications for student loans<br \/>4. Parent PLUS Loan Application<\/p><p>If any documents are requested from Financial Aid Services, we ask that you turn them in within a timely manner. No aid can be credited to a student\u2019s account without completion of their financial aid file. This can result in late fees being assessed by the Business Office or holds.<\/p><h3>Correction Procedures<\/h3><p>All corrections to students FAFSA\u2019s are made electronically through financial aid services. Changes are processed for the federal verification process, grade level changes, etc. Any changes made to a student\u2019s FAFSA by financial aid services, are notified via email.<\/p><h3>Notification of Changes to Awards<\/h3><p>If the student\u2019s award changes for any reason, a new award letter is processed electronically via the <strong>MyUSFPortal<\/strong>, and students receive a notification of the changes.\u00a0If students or parents wish to change their federal loan amounts after acceptance via the <strong>MyUSFPortal<\/strong>, they are required to contact financial aid services and request the changes in writing.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-toggle-item\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-title-1253\" class=\"elementor-tab-title\" data-tab=\"3\" role=\"button\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-1253\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-toggle-icon elementor-toggle-icon-left\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-toggle-icon-closed\"><i class=\"fas fa-caret-right\"><\/i><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-toggle-icon-opened\"><i class=\"elementor-toggle-icon-opened fas fa-caret-up\"><\/i><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a class=\"elementor-toggle-title\" tabindex=\"0\">Common Misconceptions<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-1253\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"3\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-1253\"><p><strong>FALLACY\u00a0#1:\u00a0<\/strong>I can attend a public university much cheaper than I can attend a private university.<\/p><p><strong>FACT:\u00a0<\/strong>While this can be true in some cases, financial assistance programs help equalize the financial burden on the family. The purpose of financial assistance programs is to provide ACCESS AND CHOICE to students from all economic backgrounds. In many cases, the financial assistance you will receive from USF will make the cost of attending our university very similar to attending a public four-year university. In many cases, all you will be offered at a public four-year university will be student loans.<\/p><p><strong>FALLACY #2:\u00a0<\/strong>Our neighbors said they didn\u2019t qualify for financial assistance, so we probably won\u2019t qualify either. Both our families own a $140,000 home and make over $50,000 per year.<\/p><p><strong>FACT:\u00a0<\/strong>Family situations are much different than what meets the eye. Financial need is determined on a case-by-case basis. If you do not apply and submit a FAFSA, you cannot be evaluated for need-based financial assistance. At USF, 95 percent of all entering freshman and transfer students receive some type of need-based gift assistance to help them meet their cost of attendance.<\/p><p><strong>FALLACY #3:\u00a0<\/strong>Even after financial assistance is taken into consideration, we can\u2019t come up with the money to attend USF.<\/p><p><strong>FACT:\u00a0<\/strong>In addition to the financial assistance a student can receive, there is always the option of a Federal Direct Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS). This loan is currently available through the Federal Direct Loan Program with deferment options available. If you\u2019re not interested in a loan, USF has a \u201c10 Pay-Plan\u201d available at a cost of $90 per semester through the Business Office to help spread out the cost for the entire academic year.<\/p><p><strong>FALLACY #4:<\/strong>\u00a0I\u2019ve been told that if I bring in outside scholarships, the university will reduce the other grants and scholarships that I\u2019m receiving.<\/p><p><strong>FACT:<\/strong>\u00a0At USF, we encourage students to search for outside scholarships to help offset their costs. USF policy does not subtract outside gift assistance from aid the student has already received from the university. Specifically, students are often eligible for Pell Grant and Illinois Monetary Award Program funds, and students are eligible to receive a loan under one of the William D. Ford Direct Loan programs<\/p><p><strong>FALLACY #6:<\/strong>\u00a0I didn\u2019t receive financial assistance while I attended a community college or state university. Solicitud de Pr\u00e9stamo PLUS para padres<\/p>\n<p>Si los Servicios de Ayuda Financiera le solicitan alg\u00fan documento, le rogamos que lo entregue a tiempo. No se puede abonar ninguna ayuda en la cuenta de un alumno sin haber completado su expediente de ayuda financiera. Esto puede dar lugar a la imposici\u00f3n de recargos o retenciones por parte de la Oficina Comercial.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Procedimientos de correcci\u00f3n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Todas las correcciones a las FAFSA de los alumnos se realizan electr\u00f3nicamente a trav\u00e9s de los servicios de ayuda financiera. El objetivo de los programas de ayuda financiera es proporcionar ACCESO Y OPCI\u00d3N a los alumnos de todos los niveles econ\u00f3micos. En muchos casos, la ayuda financiera que recibir\u00e1 de la USF har\u00e1 que el coste de asistir a nuestra universidad sea muy similar al de asistir a una universidad p\u00fablica de cuatro a\u00f1os. En muchos casos, lo \u00fanico que le ofrecer\u00e1n en una universidad p\u00fablica de cuatro a\u00f1os ser\u00e1n pr\u00e9stamos estudiantiles.<\/p><p><strong>FALACIA N\u00ba 2:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Nuestros vecinos dijeron que no cumpl\u00edan los requisitos para recibir ayuda financiera, as\u00ed que probablemente nosotros tampoco los cumplamos. Nuestras dos familias tienen una casa de 140,000 d\u00f3lares y ganan m\u00e1s de 50,000 al a\u00f1o.<\/p><p><strong>HECHO:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Las situaciones familiares son muy diferentes de lo que parece a simple vista. La necesidad econ\u00f3mica se determina caso por caso. Si no solicita y presenta una FAFSA, no podr\u00e1 ser evaluado para recibir ayuda financiera basada en la necesidad. En la USF, el 95 por ciento de todos los alumnos de primer a\u00f1o y los alumnos transferidos reciben alg\u00fan tipo de ayuda financiera para ayudarles a sufragar el coste de sus estudios.<\/p><p><strong>FALACIA N\u00ba 3:\u00a0<\/strong>Incluso teniendo en cuenta la ayuda financiera, no podemos reunir el dinero para asistir a la USF.<\/p><p><strong>HECHO:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Adem\u00e1s de la ayuda financiera que un alumno puede recibir, siempre existe la opci\u00f3n de un Pr\u00e9stamo Federal Directo para Padres de Alumnos Universitarios (PLUS). Este pr\u00e9stamo est\u00e1 actualmente disponible a trav\u00e9s del Programa Federal de Pr\u00e9stamos Directos con opciones de aplazamiento disponibles. Si usted no est\u00e1 interesado en un pr\u00e9stamo, la USF tiene un &#8220;10 Pay-Plan&#8221; disponible a un costo de 90 d\u00f3lares por semestre a trav\u00e9s de la Oficina de Negocios para ayudar a distribuir el costo de todo el a\u00f1o acad\u00e9mico.<\/p><p><strong>FALACIA N\u00ba 4:<\/strong>\u00a0Me han dicho que si aporto becas externas, la universidad reducir\u00e1 las otras ayudas y becas que estoy recibiendo.<\/p><p><strong>HECHO:<\/strong>\u00a0En la USF, animamos a los alumnos a buscar becas externas que les ayuden a compensar sus gastos. La pol\u00edtica de la USF no resta la ayuda de donaciones externas de la ayuda que el alumno ya ha recibido de la universidad. Hay casos en que sus pr\u00e9stamos o trabajo-estudio puede tener que ajustarse, pero eso es una cuesti\u00f3n de la ley federal<\/p><p><strong>FALACIA N\u00ba 5:<\/strong>\u00a0Me han dicho que si estoy a tiempo parcial no podr\u00e9 optar a ninguna ayuda econ\u00f3mica en la USF.<\/p><p><strong>HECHO:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Muchos alumnos tienen derecho a una ayuda financiera mientras asisten a tiempo parcial. En concreto, los alumnos suelen poder optar a los fondos de Pell Grant y del Illinois Monetary Award Program, y pueden recibir un pr\u00e9stamo en el marco de uno de los programas William D. Ford Direct Loan.<\/p><p><strong>FALACIA N\u00ba 6:<\/strong>\u00a0No recib\u00ed ayuda econ\u00f3mica mientras asist\u00ed a una facultad comunitario o a una universidad p\u00fablica.
