The Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act of 2000 (CSCPA) is a federal law that provides for the tracking of convicted sex offenders enrolled at, or employed by, institutions of higher education. CSCPA is an amendment to the Jacob Wetterling Against Children and Sexually Violent Offender Act. The CSCPA further amends the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) to clarify that nothing in the Act can prohibit an educational institution from disclosing information provided to the institution concerning registered sex offenders.<\/p>

In accordance with the CSCPA and 730\/150 Illinois Compiled Statue (ILCS), Sex Offender Registration Act, and 730\/152 ILCS, The Sex Offender and Child Murderer Community Notification Law, adult criminal sex offenders, who must register with law enforcement officials, must also notify those officials of their enrollment or employment at institutions of higher education within the state. The language defines any registrant who \u201cis employed, carries on a vocation, or is a student\u201d at an institution of higher education in the state. The requirements apply to those who: (1) are enrolled in any institution of higher education in the state on a full-time or part-time basis, or (2) have any sort of full-time or part-time employment at an institution of higher education in the state, with or without compensation, for more than 10 days, or for an aggregate period exceeding 30 days in a calendar year. Any change in employment or educational status is to be reported to the registering jurisdiction.<\/p>

Sex offenders must register with the Chief of Police with the city or Sheriff of the county in which he or she resides, is employed, carries on a vocation, or is a student at an institution of higher education. This includes out-of-state employees and students. Out-of-State employees and students shall register within 10 days of enrolling in school or beginning employment.
