At this February performance, the Joliet Symphony Orchestra will be joined by special guests including mezzo-soprano Jennifer Barrett, performing Aaron Copland’s Eight Poems of Emily Dickinson, and the JSO’s own Christi Allison (English horn) and Alyson Bauman (trumpet) as soloists on Copland’s Quiet City. The JSO will also perform Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s buoyant Ballade, and Howard Hanson’s too infrequently performed Symphony No. 2 “Romantic.”<\/p>

Carl Maria von Weber’s brooding Der Freischutz Overture and Antonin Dvorak’s rapturously beautiful Symphony No. 6 in D Major help conclude our 21st Season. Grace Pettis epitomizes the term singer\/songwriter. As a singer, her voice is both powerful and beautiful, and she uses it like a fine arts painter to color and craft her songs. She has collaborated with acclaimed artists Indigo Girls and Ruthie Foster and is the winner of many of the nation\u2019s most prestigious songwriting contests, including NPR\u2019s Mountain Stage New Song Contest, and has received grants from the Buddy Holly Educational Foundation, where she is a continuing mentor, and the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation.<\/p>

Natalie Price is a singer and songwriter, primarily known for her indie-folk-Americana sound, characterized by her soulful vocals, sincere lyrics and unique blend of genres. Formerly based in Austin, Texas, now Nashville, she has been creating music for a decade. In 2023, Price was the Grand Prize winner in the prestigious NewSong Music Performance and Songwriting Competition, one of North America\u2019s premier songwriter showcases.<\/p>

Nashville\u2019s Katie Pederson<\/b>, an award-winning songwriter and performer from Ann Arbor, Michigan, is a winner of the International Songwriting Competition and a 2024 finalist in the Independent Music Awards. She joins Genevi\u00e8ve Racette<\/b>, a highly acclaimed folk-pop musician from Montreal, Qu\u00e9bec, who has captured the hearts of listeners with her gentle yet compelling emotional resonance, and Abbie Thomas<\/b>, an award-winning singer-songwriter from Goshen, Indiana.<\/p>

<\/b>French horn soloist Emily Whittaker and the JSO explored music that revitalizes us in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart\u2019s challenging \u201cConcerto No. 3 in E-flat Major.\u201d Also on the program was the stirring \u201cFroissart Overture\u201d by Sir Edward Elgar and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 in F Major, opus 68 “Pastoral.” This program delighted and surprised as the JSO and audiences journeyed together through some familiar and unfamiliar musical landscapes<\/span><\/p>

<\/b>USF was thrilled to welcome Aoife Scott and Andy Meaney, multiple award-winning musicians from Dublin, for the first Music at Moser show in the 2023-24 school year. Hailing from Dublin, Ireland, Aoife Scott brought soulful vocals and evocative storytelling to the University of St. Francis. Her music, exploring themes of love and resilience, has captured the hearts of audiences around the world, offering a unique blend of folk, traditional and contemporary styles. Scott’s recognitions include Celtic Female Vocalist of the Year and Female Vocal Album of the Year (2021) and Irish Folk Song of the Year (2017).
