The Joliet Symphony Orchestra (JSO) opens the first concert set of its 21st season with Dr. Sean Paul Mills, artistic director & conductor, leading a program of music by Giuseppe Verdi, David DeBoor Canfield, and Alexander Borodin, and featuring saxophonist Nathan Bogert as soloist.

Titled \u201cImpassioned,\u201d the JSO will be performing Giuseppe Verdi\u2019s lighthearted \u201cNabucco Overture,\u201d Indiana-based composer David DeBoor Canfield\u2019s thrilling \u201cConcerto after Gliere\u201d for alto saxophone & orchestra, and Alexander Borodin\u2019s sweeping \u201cSymphony No. 2 in b minor.\u201d

Joining the JSO is Ball State University Associate Professor of Saxophone, Nathan Bogert. In demand as a performer and clinician, Nathan\u2019s performances have taken him to venues on five continents and his musical endeavors as both a classical and jazz saxophonist have distinguished him as one of the more unique saxophonists of his generation. As a soloist, he has appeared with many ensembles including the Banda de Conciertos de San Jos\u00e9 of Costa Rica and the top wind ensembles and orchestras at both Ball State University and the University of Iowa. He has also appeared as a featured guest artist at saxophone festivals in Asia and Latin America. An active recitalist, Nathan has given numerous recitals in Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, and throughout the United States with duo partner Dr. Michael Seregow. Nathan\u2019s commitment to commissioning new compositions has enabled him to premiere compositions by Martin Bresnick, Karalyn Schubring, Aaron Perrine, Remy LeBoeuf, Kenji Bunch, Benjamin Fuhrman, and Ted King-Smith among others.

Bogert’s primary saxophone teachers are Eugene Rousseau, Kenneth Tse, George Wolfe, and Ron Jones. In addition to his studies with these teachers, he has worked with esteemed saxophonists such as Claude Delangle, Timothy McAllister, and Jean-Marie Londeix. His passion for jazz has led him to share the stage with jazz artists Wayne Bergeron, Ted Nash, Jimmy Greene, Marcus Printup, Andy Martin, Buddy DeFranco, Denis DiBlasio, and with the Carmen Bradford Big Band.

Bogert is a Yamaha Performing Artist and a Vandoren Diamond Artist, performing exclusively on Yamaha saxophones and Vandoren reeds, mouthpieces, and ligatures.

Continuing this season are the series of FREE\u00a0 pre-concert discussions titled \u201cNoteworthy.\u201d The discussions will take place 45 minutes prior to each performance and provide audience members with an opportunity to learn more about the composers, selections, orchestra, and soloists as well as ask questions and interact with the conductor and guests.
