After spending a couple years as a lab technician at Midwestern University, she went on to receive a Ph.D. in 2013 from the University of Illinois at Chicago from the department of Microbiology and Immunology. Her doctoral research, under Dr. Lijun Rong, focused on identifying host factors utilized by the Influenza and Marburg viruses using a high-throughput screening process.<\/p><p>Dr. Chamberlain worked as a science writer and editor prior to joining USF. She authored High School Biology Unlocked, 2016 and reviewed\/authored Cracking AP Biology, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021, and several other titles.<\/p><p>Dr. Chamberlain is a member of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS) and the American Physiological Society (APS).<\/p><p>Dr. Chamberlain is the co-director of the USF Science Fellows Program.<\/p><p><strong>Research Interests<\/strong><\/p><ol><li>What is the intersection between emotions and feelings and measurable physiological parameters? How does stress\/anxiety impact the physiological functions of the human body? How does test anxiety impact the educational experience for students? What stress reduction measures are the most impactful, and how can technology play a role in implementing them?<\/li><li>What are the physiological effects of cannabinoids, the unique compounds found in the cannabis plant? Can crayfish be used as an invertebrate model system to study cannabinoids?<\/li><li>How does the interplay between bacteria and viruses dwelling in and on humans contribute to our overall health? Can the microbiome bacterial communities be modulated by tinkering with the microvirome and vice versa?
